The Offices and Codes That Apply Here
As of October 2026Severna Park, Arnold, Pasadena, Odenton, and Millersville are unincorporated parts of Anne Arundel County. The county's Department of Inspections and Permits issues electrical permits there. The county enforces the 2020 NEC, as of October 2026, under Bill 25-24, plus its own local amendments.
The City of Annapolis is different. It has its own Department of Planning and Zoning, its own permit portal, and its own amendments to the 2020 NEC, as of October 2026. Many homes with an Annapolis mailing address sit outside city limits, so check your property tax bill before you assume which office applies. The areas hub explains how.
BGE serves much of Anne Arundel County. Your power bill confirms your utility. The Maryland Energy Administration runs the state's charger rebate, covered on the rebates and incentives page.
How to Check an Electrician's License
Maryland requires a license for electrical work. The State Board of Electricians, part of the Maryland Department of Labor, licenses master, journeyperson, and apprentice electricians. Apprentices must work under supervision.
State law also lets each county run its own electrician licensing, as long as it is at least as strict as the state's. Anne Arundel County has its own License Division with master and restricted classes, and the county says trade work there must be done by tradespeople licensed in the county. A licensed electrician applies for the electrical permit.
- Ask for the electrician's license number and the name on the license.
- Search the Maryland Department of Labor's online license lookup for the state license.
- Search the licensing tab in the county's Land Use Navigator for the county license.
- Check that the name and status match the company on your written quote.
- Master electricians must show their license number on work vehicles under state law. Look for it.
What Does an EVITP Certificate Mean?
EVITP stands for the Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Training Program. It is an industry training course for electricians who install charging equipment. It is not a license and does not replace one. Some electricians hold it and some do not. If it matters to you, ask.
What a Good Install Looks Like
A good install starts with a load calculation, not a guess. The circuit is sized at 125% of the charger's continuous current, as NEC Article 625 and the rules on continuous loads require. Outlets in garages and outdoors get GFCI protection where the code calls for it. Outdoor gear is listed for wet locations.
The work is permitted and inspected. Wire runs are neat and protected. You get a written quote before work starts and the permit record after. Our permits and inspections guide and cost factors guide go deeper.
How These Guides Are Sourced
Facts on this site come from named official sources: Anne Arundel County, the City of Annapolis, the Maryland General Assembly, the Maryland Department of Labor, the Maryland Energy Administration, BGE, and the IRS. Cost ranges appear only where an established cost guide publishes one, and the source is named next to the figure.
Each page lists its sources and the date they were last checked. Facts that change, like rebate budgets and code editions, carry an as-of date. When a fact could not be confirmed, the page says to check with the office instead of guessing. Answers by topic live in the FAQ hub.
Severna Park sits on a peninsula between the Magothy and Severn rivers. Local facts here are dated and sourced.
